Almost exactly a year ago, there was an announcement that India would be one of the countries to be included in the Global Entry program. See https://www.indianembassy.org/press_detail.php?nid=2379
The article expected that enrollment could begin as early as August 2016. Now, a year later and there hasn’t been a single update on it.
In case you are wondering what Global Entry is….The Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection program, which allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Basically, you get to use a kiosk upon landing (which almost never have lines and can save you anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours after an almost 24 hour flight) and you can access to the pre-check lanes whenever it is available which is now pretty wide spread.
Sigh….under the current administration, I doubt there will be any updates but I’ll keep an eye out.
