With Indian Prime Minister Modi and US President Trump having met this week in the US, it looks like there is finally some progress happening on this. The Indian Express reports that Trump formally welcomed India into the International Expedited Traveler Initiative, which should see Indian citizens being eligible for Global Entry.
Applauding the entrepreneurship and innovation of Indians and Indian-Americans that have directly benefited both nations, President Trump welcomed India’s formal entry into the International Expedited Traveler Initiative (Global Entry program) in order to facilitate closer business and educational ties between the citizens of India and the United States.
Now this literally doesn’t mean much since there isn’t a hard timeline associated here with this. This could be days, weeks or even years away still, since the original idea behind this actually came out in 2015 with hopes that this would be active in June 2016….yet here we are in June 2017 with no Global Entry yet….Here’s hoping this one takes effect quick!
In case you are wondering what Global Entry is…..The Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection programme, which allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. India’s entry into the Global Entry Programme will offer Indian citizens opportunity to apply for membership in this Programme. After joint scrutiny and clearance by both countries, the approved Indian travelers will be extended the facility of expedited entry into the United States through automatic kiosks at select airports.
